Maple Koi Japan Trip 2010
THURSDAY 10 SEPTEMBER, 2009
Our Spring trips normally take place in March/April as this is the best time to select tosai and tategoi which have been kept overwinter. During this time we are also able to buy larger koi. Typically we fly from Heathrow to Narita Airport and our trips last approximately 7 to 10 days. For the first few days we normally travel down South to Isawa (near Mount. Fuji) where we hand pick tosai from the breeders Sakuma and Hiroi. After a day and a half in the South we then travel back towards Tokyo to catch the bullet train to the Northern region of Niigata where we stay in one particular Hotel in Nagaoka. We hire a car for this part of the trip in order to reach the breeders in the mountains. Each day we attempt to visit 6 to 8 breeders, weather permitting due to the snow in March! Some of the breeders we normally try to visit are Kaneko, Torazo, Iwishta, Marudo, Isa, Aoki, Kase, Hasegawa, Hosakai, Oofuchi, Seki, Masaki, Hiroi (brother of the Isawa Hiroi), Tanaka, Hirasawa, Shinoda, Otsuka, Suda, Dainichi, Jiroske, Hoshino, Ikarashi, Kawakami, Izamiya, Yamazake, Tzuna, Ygengi and Nogami. There are always a few more who we vist ad hoc. Our shipping agent arranges for all of our fish to be shipped over together two to three weeks after we have returned to the UK. We are happy for customers to come with us but a budget must be set before we leave the UK. All flights and accomodation must be paid for by January, so if you would like to come a final decision must be made by then. Finer details can be discussed. If you are interested in going to Japan in March and selecting koi for your self, please phone for dates and details of our next trip to Japan. |
